How to Work with YouTube Creators
The largest creator index here and the quietest. How to find channels, brief a video, and pair a fee with affiliate commission for the long tail.
What this guide covers
What is actually on the platform
YouTube is the largest creator index here, larger than Instagram and TikTok. It is also the newest, and the quietest.
Active YouTube creator accounts, by subscriber band.
Two honest caveats before you plan around it:
Marketplace activity is still thin
Over the last twelve months, YouTube accounts received a small fraction of the offers that Instagram and TikTok did. You will mostly be reaching out rather than receiving inbound offers.
Much of the data is not fresh
About 43% of YouTube accounts in the index have not been refreshed in over six months. Subscriber counts on older profiles can be well out of date.
So treat YouTube here as a discovery and outreach surface rather than a marketplace that will send you offers. Build a list, invite actively, and open each channel’s live page to check the real subscriber count before you negotiate.
Why YouTube is a different kind of placement
The format changes what you should be buying, and what you should be paying for.
| Instagram or TikTok | YouTube | |
|---|---|---|
| How long it lives | Hours to days in feed | Years. A video keeps being found through search |
| What converts | Impulse and reach | Research intent. People arrive already looking |
| Best fit | Awareness, trends, short demos | Reviews, tutorials, comparisons, anything with a considered purchase |
| What to pay for | The post itself | The post and the description link, which keeps earning |
This is why YouTube and affiliate fit together so naturally. A feed post that converts on day one is worth a fixed fee. A review video that keeps converting for two years is worth a fee plus a commission, and the creator will usually prefer that deal too.
Finding YouTube creators
Search works the same way as for the other platforms, with the same locked handles and the same reveal credits.
Pick your campaign first
That decides whether the button says Invite to campaign, Invite to program or Request to send product.
Filter by subscribers
Nano 100 to 10k, Micro 10k to 100k, Macro 100k to 1m, Mega over 1m, or a custom range.
The 10k to 100k band is where the depth is
212,997 accounts, the largest band by a wide margin.
Handles are masked until revealed
A reveal costs a monthly credit or a small wallet payment, and paying an offer reveals the creator free and permanently.
Because the index is large and the inbound offers are few, invitations do the work here. A saved list of twenty to thirty channels, invited with a personalised note, is the realistic way to start on YouTube.
Setting up a campaign for YouTube
YouTube is one of the post types in the normal paid collaboration wizard. There is no separate YouTube campaign.
| Wizard step | What to put for a YouTube campaign |
|---|---|
| Platforms and post types | Tick YouTube Video. You can combine it with Instagram or TikTok in one campaign |
| What should creators do | Usually create and publish content, since a YouTube placement is made for you |
| How long the post stays up | Permanent. The whole value of YouTube is the long tail, so a temporary duration defeats the point |
| Bio link | Say yes, and give your product URL. On YouTube this becomes the description link, which is where the clicks come from |
| Upload content | Reference images, brand guidelines, b-roll if you have it. At least one file, which is also what submits the campaign |
Be specific in the brief about where in the video you want the mention. A 60 second integration at minute two is a different product from a 15 second mention in the outro, and creators price them very differently.
Doing affiliate marketing with YouTubers
This is where YouTube earns its keep, and the setup is different from the influencer side.
The affiliate platform keeps its own list of promotion platforms, separate from the Ainfluencer mobile app. YouTube is one of five that verify instantly by login, alongside TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. You connect a store | Shopify, or Amazon across nineteen marketplaces. Plus a card on file |
| 2. You set commission | Per product, 5% to 50% in practice. On the Free plan the minimum you can offer is 25% |
| 3. The creator connects YouTube | In the affiliate app, by Google login. Their channels are pulled in and verified instantly |
| 4. They pick a category per channel | Required, and it is what your programme is matched against |
| 5. They generate tracking links | Per product. These go in the video description |
| 6. A sale happens | Tracked to that creator |
| 7. You are billed after 35 days | The returns window. Then the nightly run charges your card |
| 8. They are paid via Stripe Connect | Roughly five to seven weeks from the sale |
6,512 affiliates have already connected a YouTube channel on the affiliate side, which makes it the third largest promotion platform there after Instagram and TikTok. So the affiliate side of YouTube is considerably more active than the collaboration side.
The structure that actually works on YouTube
A fee for the work, plus a commission for the long tail. It matches how a video actually earns.
A flat fee covers production
A YouTube integration is hours of scripting, filming and editing. Commission alone asks a creator to fund that themselves, and good channels decline.
A commission covers the tail
The video keeps being found. A tracking link in the description keeps converting long after the fee is spent.
Permanent duration protects both
Agree Permanent on the offer so the video and its link stay up.
Agree usage rights in the chat
If you want to run the footage as a paid ad, that is a separate product and the offer form cannot record it.
Running both at once today means two setups: a paid collaboration for the fee, and an affiliate programme the creator joins for the commission. The combined campaign type is marked Coming Soon in the picker and is not yet built.
Practical differences to expect
Four things that behave differently with YouTube creators.
| What to know | |
|---|---|
| Each channel is its own account | A creator with three channels has three Ainfluencer accounts. Invite the channel you actually want |
| Brand Accounts can fail to connect | If a creator manages a channel rather than owning the Google account, connecting can fail. It is a known case |
| Delivery is a normal submission | They submit the video URL on the offer card. Our system can read a public YouTube link, so your approval window is the full nine days |
| Data may be stale | Roughly 43% of YouTube accounts here have not refreshed in six months. Check the live channel before you price |
Give YouTube creators a longer lead time than you would give an Instagram creator. A scripted, filmed and edited integration is not a same-week job, and the agreed publish date is what every timer on the deal counts from.
