How Refunds Work, End to End
Why money comes back without you asking, exactly how long you had, and which parts of the payment never return.
What this guide covers
Why you were refunded when you did not ask
Almost every refund on the platform is automatic. Payment is released by your approval, so when no approval comes, the system treats the deal as failed and returns the money.
The default timeline, counted from the agreed publish date.
Two things make this land as a surprise, and both are worth knowing in advance:
The deal still says Published
The label on your side does not change when the clock runs out, so nothing on screen warns you.
Nobody is reminded
Neither you nor the creator gets a nudge before the refund fires.
How long you actually had
The window depends on what the creator submitted, not on how busy you were.
| What the creator submitted | Deal fails | You are refunded |
|---|---|---|
| A public Instagram, TikTok or YouTube post we can read | about 9 days after they submitted | about 10 days after they submitted |
| Content files uploaded in the chat | 9 days after upload | 10 days after upload |
| A story, a private post, or an unsupported link | 2 days after the agreed publish date | 3 days after it |
| Nothing at all | 2 days after the agreed publish date | 3 days after it |
Row three is the one that catches brands out. A creator can deliver an Instagram story in good faith on the agreed date and still leave you under 48 hours, because our system cannot read a story and so does not extend the clock. If a creator plans to post a story, agree in the chat that they will also upload a screen recording.
What comes back, and what does not
A refund returns the creator’s price. It does not unwind the whole checkout.
On a $200 deal you paid $230. You get $200 back.
| Line on your original payment | Returned? |
|---|---|
| The agreed creator price | Yes, in full, to your wallet |
| The platform fee | No. It pays for running the collaboration and is not refundable |
| A coupon or promotional credit you applied | No. That part was never your money, so it returns to Ainfluencer |
| Content insurance, if you bought it | No, and it is shown as its own line on the transaction |
The money goes to your Ainfluencer wallet, never back to your card. From there it is spendable on any collaboration, but it cannot be withdrawn to a bank.
Where to see the refund
Three places show it, and they answer different questions.
Where your money is
On Payments & Billing. The figure you want is Refunded to you.
The transactions list
Filter by Refunded To Brand Wallet to see every refunded deal.
The transaction row itself
Click it for the full split: Amount, Platform fee, Content insurance, Coupon discount and Total paid by you.
If the arithmetic still does not work, the usual culprit is the platform fee, which was charged on top of the price and so is not part of the creator’s amount. Read Total paid by you rather than Amount.
Getting your money back sooner
You do not always have to wait for the timer. Which route is open depends on where the money is.
| Situation | Fastest route |
|---|---|
| The creator has gone quiet and nothing was delivered | Contact support with the offer link and ask for the collaboration to be disapproved. An admin disapproval refunds immediately |
| Something was delivered and you do not want it | Click Disapprove it. The money is held for 14 days from the deal’s start date so the creator can fix it, then returned. For an immediate refund, ask support instead |
| You already approved | The money has gone. Contact support, but treat this as a finance decision rather than a right |
| You want it back on your card | Not available. Refunds go to the wallet |
Do not approve the delivery while you are waiting for support. Approval releases the money and moves the case from something support can fix to something only the finance team can review.
If you decide you wanted the content after all
A refund is not always the end. You can still pay for a deal that was refunded.
Approving a refunded deal takes the offer price from your wallet again. The platform fee is not charged a second time. If your balance will not cover it you will see You currently do not have enough funds in your wallet.
Tell the creator before you do it. From their side the deal already failed and the money already went back, so an unannounced payment weeks later is confusing. A message in the chat turns it into good news.
Are refunds normal?
Common, and falling sharply. The path is well worn, which is the useful part.
| Month | Deals refunded across the platform |
|---|---|
| October 2025 | 242 |
| December 2025 | 86 |
| March 2026 | 55 |
| June 2026 | 14 |
| September 2026 | 14 |
The fall reflects tighter delivery checks rather than fewer collaborations. Almost all of those refunds were non deliveries rather than quality disputes; refunds after a creator genuinely delivered are rare.
The practical lesson is to reduce your own exposure rather than to fear the system. Check a creator’s reviews and past collaborations before paying, and treat a slow replier during negotiation as a slow replier after payment.
