Shopify Migration Agencies in 2026: What 16 Shopify Migration Companies Do at Each Stage

16 Shopify migration agencies compared stage by stage: audit, data, redirects, cutover and the first 90 days, with what Shopify moves and published prices.

A migration is not one job. It is six stages, and an agency can be excellent at four of them. Read the stages in order. Each agency below turns up where it has something specific to say, so you can see who is strong on audits, who is strong on cutover and who says nothing at all about redirects.

What Does a Shopify Migration Agency Do?

A Shopify migration agency moves a store from another platform to Shopify: it audits what you have, moves products, customers and orders, maps old URLs to new ones, switches the domain and supports the store after launch. It differs from a Shopify expert, which is a loose label, and from a Shopify partner, which is Shopify’s own program term. For how those labels work, see our guide to hiring Shopify experts.

Do You Need a Shopify Migration Agency? Agency vs DIY App vs Freelancer

Shopify’s migration guide offers five routes: copy by hand, import a CSV, use a migration app, hire a partner, or build against the API. You can combine them. Products by CSV and orders by app is common.

Shopify also ships a free app called Store Migration. It takes products and customers from Square, WooCommerce, Etsy, Wix, Amazon, eBay, Clover and Lightspeed and lets you review them before anything goes live. It skips collections, reviews, blog posts, navigation, SEO data, integrations and redirects, and Shopify calls it a quick import, not a replatform. Its App Store rating when we looked was 3.2 from 78 reviews.

A small catalog, a stock theme and little search traffic can often manage with the app and a weekend. Thousands of products, years of order history you need, an ERP, or organic traffic you cannot afford to lose? Keep reading.

Shopify Migration Audit: What Data Moves and What Does Not

Good agencies charge, or at least spend real time, before they move anything. The audit decides what is worth carrying over, and it is the cheapest place to find that a move is a bad idea.

scandiweb sells the audit as a product: a $490 migration risk audit, a $990 preview of one key page live on Shopify and a $1,990 first sprint, each credited toward the full migration, with the full price set after scoping. It also says on its own pages that Shopify is not always the right move and that passwords cannot transfer. 1Digital Agency starts with discovery at $185 an hour and then proposes a fixed fee. Enstacked offers a free migration plan. Arctic Grey offers a free test-drive migration to a limited number of brands each week, and claims 300 or more migrations from over 100 platforms, though it publishes no full-move price. Blackbelt Commerce is blunt about fit: its WooCommerce guidance says stores under about $1 million in revenue are often better off waiting.

Whatever the agency, audit these against Shopify’s own list of what moves:

What Shopify’s help pages say about each kind of data

Data What Shopify says So you need
ProductsCSV, the Store Migration app or a third-party appA clean export and a check that variants arrived
CollectionsNot imported by the Store Migration appTo rebuild them or use another tool
CustomersCSV or app. Duplicate emails are skipped, past email opens cannot be importedA plan for passwords
Historical ordersNot by CSV. An app or the API, after products and customersAn order import tool, with staff notifications off
Blog posts and pagesBy app or by handAn app, or time to recreate them

DiscountsNot imported by CSV from WooCommerceTo rebuild active codes
SubscriptionsNo official route found on its help pagesA subscription app and a developer

Should You Redesign During the Migration?

You can, but a redesign and a migration together change two things at once. If traffic drops, you cannot tell whether the cause was the design or the URLs. Shopify does not migrate your theme anyway, so a new theme build is part of the job. A safer path is to launch a close copy of the old design, confirm traffic is stable, then redesign.

Shopify Migration Services Process: Data Migration Step by Step

Shopify’s guidance is to run the migration into a staging store first, check counts and a sample of records, and only then run it for production. Import in order: products, customers, then orders. Turn off staff notifications before orders go in, or your team gets a flood of new-order emails.

Passwords do not move. Shopify says they are encrypted outside Shopify, so customers are invited to set new ones, or they sign in with a one-time code under new customer accounts. BSS Commerce adds a limit worth knowing: each product is capped at 2,048 variants.

The better agencies publish how many rehearsals they run. Blackbelt Commerce plans at least three test migrations in an eight-phase process. Enstacked runs a test migration into a development store. Atwix, a Magento and Adobe Commerce specialist in Chicago, transfers data in three phases while the old site stays live. On price, DigitalSuits quotes about $60 an hour for WooCommerce and $60 to $80 for Magento, and CartCoders runs hourly plans with a 100 hour minimum. Both are claims on their own pages.

Process openness varies a lot. ECommerce Partners publishes a six-phase process with timelines by platform. Atwix lists eleven steps on its Magento page, starting with a feature audit. IWD Agency describes audit, plan, migrate and launch with a parallel run. Make Be Cool claims zero downtime and works from a fixed scope after a short audit. Eastside Co gives 3 to 4 months and no price. Ask any agency to show you its steps on paper before you sign.

Protect Your SEO: 301 Redirects and URL Mapping for a Shopify Migration

This is the stage where stores lose search traffic, and the stage agencies are most likely to skip in their sales pitch. Shopify’s redirects tool allows up to 100,000 redirects on a standard store and 20 million on Plus. It fires only when the old address returns an error. A URL that still loads a page is never redirected. Some paths, among them /products, /collections, /apps, /cart and /shop, cannot be redirected at all. Set the redirects up before you move the domain. Google’s own guide to moving a site with URL changes covers URL mapping, permanent redirects and monitoring afterwards.

CartCoders builds a redirect sheet with a 301 target for every old URL. scandiweb agrees a redirect map before the build begins. Eastside Co, in the UK, calls the redirect map the most important part of the project. If you already have a developer and only need the search side protected, OuterBox describes SEO-led support with a one-to-one redirect plan and reviews at 14, 30 and 60 days, and Break The Web lists migration assistance for rankings, though it names no stores and has no separate migration page. For other search help, see our Shopify SEO agency guide.

Shopify Migration Cutover: DNS, Downtime and Go-Live Checklist

Shopify’s help pages and replatforming guide suggest this order:

  1. Freeze changes on the old store before you migrate.
  2. Rehearse on staging, then run production.
  3. Finish the redirect map before the domain moves.
  4. Lower the DNS TTL at your registrar and pick a quiet window.
  5. Disconnect the domain from the old platform, then connect it to Shopify. Shopify says it can take up to 48 hours to be fully live.
  6. Lock the old store while DNS changes, then import the orders and customers created since your first transfer.
  7. Add the new domain to Search Console and submit the sitemap.

Downtime and Data Loss During a Shopify Migration

1Digital Agency says its cutover typically takes under 60 minutes, with a parallel Shopify store, a frozen Magento site and a final sync of orders and customers, and claims 200 or more migrations. Enstacked says it switches DNS only after redirects are live. Atwix’s hub page says to expect zero business disruption, while another page mentions 2 to 4 hours of downtime. Shopify gives no downtime guarantee of its own, so ask the agency for a number, and treat a guarantee of zero downtime as a red flag. Shopify’s Plus launch checklist adds two details: start the domain work about a week before go-live, with a TTL of 300, and import orders from the past two to five years rather than all of them.

Post-Migration Support: What a Shopify Migration Company Should Do After Launch

Shopify advises comparing traffic and indexed pages at 30 and 90 days after launch. A fall in indexed pages can point to a redirect problem. Check Search Console daily for the first two weeks.

Ask what happens after go-live. CartCoders and eCommerce Today each offer 30 days of support. Blackbelt Commerce runs a 72-hour war room. Be wary of any agency that treats the launch date as the end. Once the store is stable and you want growth, the Shopify marketing agency comparison covers the next hire.

How Much Does a Shopify Migration Cost in 2026? Agency Quotes and Timelines

Few agencies print prices, and the ones that do measure different things. Treat everything below as the agencies’ claims:

  • CartCoders: from $2,500 for a small shop, $7,500 to $20,000 mid-size, $25,000 to $60,000 or more for Plus with ERP or B2B.
  • DigitalSuits: hourly rates above, plus a size scale of $500 to $2,000 small, $3,000 to $10,000 medium and up to $50,000 and beyond for large.
  • Atwix: $15,000 to $75,000 or more on its Magento page, and $25,000 to $75,000 standard and $75,000 to $200,000 enterprise on its hub page.
  • Blackbelt Commerce: line items that add up to $125,000 to $175,000 in its guide, and $10,000 to $20,000 standard in its Magento page.
  • eCommerce Today: 5,000 to 15,000 euros or more plus VAT on its migration page. A search summary showed a dollar figure, so confirm the currency.
  • 1Digital Agency: from $185 an hour, with a fixed fee after discovery.
  • Swanky, Fyresite, IWD Agency, ECommerce Partners, BSS Commerce, Make Be Cool and Eastside Co: no migration price published.

How Long Does a Shopify Migration Take?

Shopify says most stores migrate in under three months and puts the Plus average at three to four. Agency claims: CartCoders says two to four weeks for a simple shop and eight to sixteen for a large Plus build. eCommerce Today says 4 to 6 weeks for WooCommerce. Make Be Cool says 2 to 12. Enstacked says about 2 under 500 products. For Magento, Atwix says 6 to 10 weeks standard, 1Digital 8 to 16, scandiweb 3 to 6 months for mid-market, Eastside Co 3 to 4 months, IWD Agency 3 to 6 months and ECommerce Partners 12 to 24 weeks. BigCommerce moves run 4 to 6 weeks at Atwix and 8 to 16 at ECommerce Partners, and 1Digital puts enterprise and headless at 18 to 24 weeks or more.

Shopify Migration Agency vs Shopify Plus Partner: Do You Need Plus?

Most stores do not need Plus to migrate. Plus matters for B2B, several storefronts and higher limits: Shopify’s redirect cap is 100,000 on a standard store and 20 million on Plus, and its enterprise blog puts the average Plus migration at three to four months. If your project is large, look for an agency with real Plus builds, and read our Shopify Plus agency guide. For custom themes, apps and integrations on the new store, see the Shopify development agency guide.

Best Shopify Migration Agencies by Source Platform

WooCommerce to Shopify Migration

CartCoders, Make Be Cool, Enstacked, eCommerce Today and Swanky all describe it. Swanky has worked only with Shopify since 2012 and lists 28 source platforms, with no prices, and a teaser on its site describes a WooCommerce subscription brand moved in a month.

Magento and Adobe Commerce to Shopify Migration

scandiweb, 1Digital, Blackbelt Commerce, Atwix, IWD Agency and Eastside Co are the main names. IWD is a small Magento-first agency of about 15 people. Eastside Co says it moved Lazy Oaf, Cutler and Gross and Oliver Sweeney. Atwix leans toward B2B catalogs. Fyresite fits automotive and fitment catalogs, and claims a 70% revenue rise in six months for Chassis Unlimited with no baseline.

BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud and Custom Platform Migration

ECommerce Partners publishes timelines by platform, though it gives migration counts of 50 and of 100 or more on different pages. BSS Commerce quotes 4 to 12 weeks and states its limits honestly, but its latest dated blog posts are from 2023.

Wix and Squarespace to Shopify Migration

Try the Store Migration app first, since it lists Wix as a source. If you want help, DigitalSuits gives $500 to $2,000 as its general small-store range.

Which Shopify Migration Agencies Link a Partner Profile?

Only IWD Agency, ECommerce Partners and eCommerce Today link their Shopify Partner Directory profile from their own sites. For the rest, a badge is a claim until you check the directory, as described in our guide to hiring Shopify experts.

How to Choose a Shopify Migration Agency: Questions to Ask and Red Flags

  • How many test migrations do you run, and who checks the counts?
  • Who owns the redirect map, and when is it finished? It should be done before the domain moves.
  • What is the rollback plan, and what is out of scope: theme, apps, reviews, subscriptions?
  • How long is post-launch support, and what does it cover?
  • Can you name stores you migrated from my platform, and does your Partner Directory profile link from your site?
  • Red flag: no staging rehearsal or no written scope.
  • Red flag: a guarantee of zero downtime or zero traffic loss. Shopify guarantees neither.
  • Red flag: the launch date is the end of the contract.

Shopify Migration Agency FAQ

How much does a Shopify migration cost?

Few agencies publish a price. CartCoders states from $2,500 for a small shop and $25,000 to $60,000 or more for Plus, scandiweb starts with a $490 audit, and Atwix quotes $15,000 to $75,000 or more. Most quote after an audit.

How long does a Shopify migration take?

Shopify says most stores migrate in under three months and Plus migrations average three to four. Agencies state from about two weeks for a small WooCommerce shop to six months or more for a large Magento store.

Will I lose my SEO rankings when I migrate to Shopify?

You can if redirects are missing or wrong. Shopify’s redirects only fire on an error page, and some paths cannot be redirected. Map every old URL before launch and compare traffic and indexed pages at 30 and 90 days.

Will my store have downtime during a Shopify migration?

Shopify gives no downtime guarantee. Agencies claim a cutover under 60 minutes or a zero-downtime DNS switch. Ask for the number, a low-traffic window and a final sync of new orders.

Does order history transfer to Shopify?

Not by CSV. Shopify says historical orders need an app or the API, after products and customers are imported. Turn staff notifications off first so your team is not flooded with new-order emails.

Do I need Shopify Plus to migrate?

Not for a standard store. Plus matters for very large catalogs, B2B and several storefronts, and Shopify’s redirect cap is 100,000 on a standard store and 20 million on Plus.

Should I redesign my store during the migration?

It is safer not to. A redesign and a migration together change two things at once, so you cannot tell why traffic moved. Launch a close copy first, then redesign.

Can I migrate my blog posts and pages to Shopify?

Yes, by app or by hand. Shopify’s Store Migration app does not import them, so plan time or tooling for that content.

Can customers keep their passwords?

No. Shopify says passwords cannot be moved. Customers set new passwords, or sign in by emailed one-time code with new customer accounts.

Can I use Shopify’s free Store Migration app instead of an agency?

For small stores, yes. It imports products and customers from several platforms and shows them first, but it skips collections, reviews, blog posts, navigation, SEO data, integrations and redirects.

Will my product reviews move across?

Not through a typical store export. Some review apps can import them, so ask your review provider before launch.
