Shopify PPC Agency and Shopify PPC Management: Fees, Break-Even and 14 Compared in 2026
Shopify PPC management costs, break-even ROAS after the fee, a tracking audit and 14 agencies matched to your ad spend, with the prices they print.
A Shopify PPC agency is a firm that runs your paid ads, and Shopify PPC management is the work it does for a monthly fee: building the campaigns, fixing the product feed and tracking, adjusting bids and reporting against your own sales. This guide answers both halves in one place. It explains what management includes, what the platforms themselves give you for free, what the fee does to the return you need, and which of 14 agencies fit which level of monthly ad spend.
Every figure about an agency is that agency’s own claim, read on its own site on 8 November 2026, and the key fees were re-read on the live pages the same day. Every platform fact comes from Shopify, Google, Meta or TikTok documentation. Where a platform page was behind a login or would not load, we say so and state nothing from it. We name no agency as the best, because the 14 sites give no way to compare results on equal terms. If you also need email, conversion and store work, see our guide to Shopify marketing agencies compared on fees and terms.
Shopify PPC Agency Quick Answers: Cost, Spend and Who Fits
The short version (fees are printed by the agencies named, the arithmetic is ours)
| Question | Short answer | Where it is explained |
|---|---|---|
| What does Shopify PPC management cost? | Four of the 14 agencies print a fee on their own sites: from $499 a month up to 10% of spend (Mavlers), $600 to $800 per platform (Hustle Marketers), $5,000 to $25,000 a month in fees (Brenton Way), mid four to low five figures (Zettler Digital). Two more print ranges on their Shopify directory pages. The rest quote on request. | Shopify PPC management cost section |
| How much ad spend do I need? | Printed recommendations run from $1,500 a month (Axis Web Art) to $5,000 (Brenton Way). Digital Darts asks for at least AU$2,000 a month and $10,000 a month in sales. | When it is not worth it yet |
| What ROAS do I need to break even? | One divided by your contribution margin, plus the fee. At a 40% margin that is 2.5 before the fee and about 2.9 with a fee equal to 15% of spend. | Break-even ROAS section |
| Who owns the ad accounts? | It should be you. Google’s own pages say a manager account that creates your account becomes its owner, so ask who created it. | Account ownership section |
| Does a Google Partner badge prove results? | No. Google’s own requirements measure spend across all clients, an optimization score and certifications, not return for your store. | Partner badges section |
What Shopify PPC Management Includes
PPC means you pay when someone clicks or sees an ad. On Shopify that usually means five jobs. Agencies bundle them differently, so the point of this section is to give you a checklist to hold a proposal against.
Account and campaign structure
The agency decides which campaigns exist and how budget is split between them: Google Shopping and Performance Max for products, Google Search for intent keywords, and Meta or TikTok for demand you create. Several agencies on our list separate brand search from non-brand search in reporting. Hustle Marketers published a reason: across 14 ecommerce accounts it managed from October 2025 to September 2026, brand Search returned 16.44x against 3.09x for non-brand Search (its own data). An average of the two would look healthy while hiding how weak the non-brand half is.
Product feed and Merchant Center
Shopping ads need a Merchant Center account linked to Google Ads, and Google’s help page says product data must be sent at least every 30 days and meet its specification. Shopify’s requirements page asks for a GTIN, or an MPN plus brand when there is no GTIN, and apparel may need age group, gender, colour and size. Google’s availability policy says to use the pause attribute, not out_of_stock, to hide a product temporarily, and that too many mismatches between feed and landing page can lead to account suspension. A management fee that ignores the feed is paying for bids on a broken catalogue.
Conversion tracking
Smart bidding learns from the purchases it sees, so tracking is the foundation. On Shopify, pixels are managed under Settings, then Customer events. Shopify’s help pages say web pixels send events through the visitor’s browser, so tracking prevention and ad blockers can reduce attribution accuracy, while server pixels send from a server. Section six below turns this into an hour-long audit you can run yourself.
Creative and landing pages
Performance Max and Meta’s automated campaigns still need images, video, headlines and a store page that converts. Some agencies produce creative, others expect you to supply it. Creator content is a common source: our Shopify influencer marketing guide for merchants covers how brands get it, including the disclosure rules that apply when a creator’s video is used as an ad. If the store page itself is the weak link, ad spend will not fix it, and a Shopify web design agency compared on costs is a different purchase.
Reporting
Good reporting ties ad spend to Shopify revenue and says what changed. Reporting cadences printed by agencies on our list include weekly updates (Logical Gecko, Endless Digital via Slack), weekly reports through a dashboard (Brenton Way) and monthly reports with a weekly review in the first months (Axis Web Art, Visionary Marketing). A report that shows only platform ROAS cannot tell you whether the business made money.
Who does what in a typical Shopify PPC set-up (our summary of the platform pages)
| Task | Shopify or the platform | You or your agency |
|---|---|---|
| Product sync to Merchant Center | The Google and YouTube channel syncs products and store details | Fix titles, GTINs and categories; manage supplemental data |
| Billing for ad spend | Google’s app listing says ad spend is billed to your Google Ads account | Agree who pays, and keep billing in your name |
| Pixels and server events | Shopify offers Meta data sharing levels and customer events | Choose the level, remove duplicate pixel code, test with a real order |
| Campaign build and bids | Google and Meta automate within the settings you give them | Set structure, goals, exclusions, budgets and creative |
| Policy compliance | Google and Meta review feeds, pricing and products | Keep price, stock and claims on the site matching the ads |
Shopify PPC Services by Channel: Google, Meta and TikTok
Most proposals bundle several channels. What follows is what Shopify and the platforms document, so you can tell a real service from a menu.
Google Shopping, Performance Max and Search
Shopify’s Google and YouTube sales channel help page says the channel syncs products and store details to Merchant Center and, for eligible US stores, products can appear in the Shopping tab at no cost. It lets you connect Google Ads for conversion measurement, and for Performance Max when Merchant Center is also connected. The connected Google account must be an administrator on the Ads account, and each Merchant Center account can connect to only one Shopify store. Shopify also says Performance Max is the successor to Smart Shopping and that new Smart Shopping campaigns can no longer be created. New Performance Max campaigns are created in Merchant Center, opened from the channel in Shopify admin.
Google Shopping, Performance Max and Search each need a decision from the agency. Hustle Marketers’ own data showed Standard Shopping at a median 5.62x and Performance Max at 4.95x across 14 accounts, with each ahead in four of nine accounts. That is one agency’s data, but it makes the point that no format wins everywhere. Ask how a proposal chooses between them for your catalogue and margins. Axis Web Art says Performance Max wants at least 50 conversions a month before it performs well, which is its claim and not a Google rule we could confirm.
Meta ads for Shopify: Advantage+ and the pixel
Shopify’s Facebook and Instagram channel syncs your catalogue to Meta and offers three data sharing levels. Standard uses the Meta pixel only. Enhanced adds the Conversions API, which sends the purchase from a server so browser ad blockers cannot block it. Maximum adds Meta’s latest advertising technology. Shopify says pixel code pasted into a theme earlier must be removed, because two pixels can double count. Meta’s developer documentation describes the Advantage+ campaign experience for sales as the successor to Advantage+ shopping campaigns. Meta’s Business Help and partner pages were behind a login when we tried them, so nothing here comes from them.
TikTok ads for Shopify
TikTok’s own page describes TikTok on Shopify as a one-click set-up of ad tools with the TikTok Pixel and Events API installed without editing code, plus automatic catalogue sync. It is not available in every market. TikTok’s blog reports that advertisers using both the pixel and Events API captured on average 19% more events and a 15% better cost per action. That is TikTok’s marketing claim, not independent evidence. Six of the 14 agencies below list TikTok as a service. The Shopify help page for the TikTok Shop channel is about selling inside TikTok, which is a different product from running ads.
Microsoft Ads and other channels
Microsoft Advertising appears on the pages of Mavlers, Hustle Marketers, Logical Gecko, First Pier and 20North, and Pinterest on Hustle Marketers’ and 20North’s. We did not research Microsoft or Pinterest platform documentation, so we state only that these agencies list them. They are rarely the first channel to test.

How Much Does Shopify PPC Management Cost?
Most agencies do not print a fee. Of the 14 below, four print a figure on their own sites and two more show a range on their Shopify Partner Directory pages. The first table shows the fee models and who prints which. The second turns the printed fees into a share of ad spend, which is the number that matters for return.
Fee models in use among the 14, with who prints what
| Model | How it works | Printed by | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat monthly fee | A fixed fee that does not rise with spend | First Pier says its fee is fixed, not a percentage, and prints no amount | Check what the fee includes: creative, feed work, reporting |
| Tiered by ad spend | Fee steps up as budget grows | Mavlers: $499 up to $3,000 of spend, $799 up to $5,000 then 12% (minimum $900) up to $10,000, 10% above $10,000 (minimum $1,500), custom above $50,000 | The percentage tiers reward the agency when you spend more |
| Flat fee per platform | Each channel is billed separately | Hustle Marketers: $600 to $800 per platform per month | Adding Meta or Microsoft raises the total |
| Retainer plus performance | A base fee with part tied to results | Digital Darts says it works on a retainer and pay for performance model; Zettler Digital and Endless Digital say performance options exist for some clients | Ask exactly what the performance metric is and who measures it |
| Range printed by the agency | A band for management fees | Brenton Way: most Shopify clients invest $5,000 to $25,000 a month in management fees plus ad spend; Zettler Digital: mid four figures to low five figures a month | These bands suit large budgets |
| Directory listing ranges | Shopify Partner Directory pricing fields | Endless Digital: $1,000 to $2,500 for Meta ads and the same for Google Ads, billing period not stated; Logical Gecko: starting from $1,000 for selected services | Directory fields are loose, so treat them as signals |
No agency among the 14 printed a set-up fee, and several offer a free audit: First Pier’s free review of quick wins, Visionary Marketing, Logical Gecko and Scandiweb. Guides that print a percentage of spend disagree with one another, one saying 10% to 20% and another 15% to 30%, and neither shows a source. We do not use either range.
What the printed fees come to as a share of ad spend (arithmetic from each agency’s own tiers, our reading)
| Agency and set-up | Monthly ad spend | Fee | Fee as a share of spend |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mavlers Starter | $2,000 | $499 | about 25% |
| Mavlers Starter | $3,000 | $499 | about 17% |
| Mavlers Growth | $5,000 | $799 | about 16% |
| Mavlers Growth | $10,000 | 12% of spend, $1,200 | 12% |
| Mavlers Scale | $20,000 | 10% of spend, $2,000 | 10% |
| Mavlers Scale | $50,000 | 10% of spend, $5,000 | 10% |
| Hustle Marketers, Google only | $3,000 | $600 to $800 | 20% to 27% |
| Hustle Marketers, Google and Microsoft | $8,000 | $1,200 to $1,600 | 15% to 20% |
| Hustle Marketers, Google, Microsoft and Meta | $20,000 | $1,800 to $2,400 | 9% to 12% |
The Hustle Marketers rows come from an illustration on its own page, which says the spend figures are examples and not recommendations. The pattern is the same for every model: a small budget carries a heavy fee share, and the share falls as spend grows. That is why the next section matters.
Break-Even ROAS: What the Management Fee Does to Your Return
ROAS is revenue from ads divided by ad spend. A 3x ROAS means $3 of sales for each $1 spent. Whether 3x is good depends on your margin. Contribution margin here means what is left from each order after product cost, shipping, payment fees and returns, before ad spend. The break-even point before any fee is one divided by that margin, so a 40% margin needs 2.5x just to cover the ads. This is plain arithmetic, and several agencies on our list repeat it in their own words.
The fee moves the line. To cover both the ad spend and the fee, the ROAS you need is (1 plus the fee as a share of spend) divided by your margin. The table shows the result.
ROAS needed to cover ad spend plus the management fee (arithmetic, not a benchmark)
| Contribution margin | No fee | Fee 5% of spend | Fee 10% | Fee 15% | Fee 25% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30% | 3.33 | 3.50 | 3.67 | 3.83 | 4.17 |
| 40% | 2.50 | 2.63 | 2.75 | 2.88 | 3.13 |
| 50% | 2.00 | 2.10 | 2.20 | 2.30 | 2.50 |
Read it with the fee table above. At a 40% margin, the Mavlers Starter tier at $2,000 of spend sits in the 25% column and needs about 3.1x just to break even on the first order. At $20,000 of spend and a 10% fee the same store needs about 2.75x. The agency did nothing different. The budget did.
Three cautions before you quote a ROAS
- First order or lifetime. The table is a first-order test. If customers buy again, a lower first-order return can still be profitable, but you need your own repeat-purchase data to say so.
- Blended or split. A blended ROAS that includes brand search looks strong, as the 16.44x against 3.09x split above shows. Ask for brand and non-brand reported separately.
- Which system counts. Shopify, Google Ads and Meta each credit sales by their own rules. Shopify’s help page warns that the same sale can be counted in more than one place, and its default report model is last non-direct click. Pick one source of truth, usually Shopify revenue, before the contract starts.
Shopify PPC Agencies by Monthly Ad Spend: 14 Compared
We placed each agency in the tier its own printed minimums, recommendations and fees point to. That is our judgement, and many take clients across tiers. Each row shows what its site says about Shopify and paid ads, what it prints about fees and terms, the proof it shows, and one thing to check. Case results are the agency’s own claims. We read each agency’s own pages, never a listing, and left out agencies whose Shopify and paid ads link could not be seen on their own site.
Which tier fits you (our judgement from printed minimums and fees)
| Your monthly ad spend | What to expect | Agencies in this tier |
|---|---|---|
| Under $5,000 | Heavy fee share, one or two channels, narrow tests. Look for published fees and no lock-in. | Mavlers, Digital Darts, Hustle Marketers, Axis Web Art, Logical Gecko |
| $5,000 to $25,000 | Several channels, weekly reviews, tracking and feed work as part of the scope. | Endless Digital, First Pier, Visionary Marketing, Scandiweb, Flatline Agency, 20North |
| Above $25,000 | A team, creative production, multi-market work, higher fee bands. | Brenton Way, Slicedbread, Zettler Digital |
Under $5,000 a month in ads
Five agencies whose printed terms suit smaller budgets
| Agency | Where (as stated) | Fee and terms it prints | Proof it shows | Check before signing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mavlers | No headquarters stated; lists UK, US and Australian numbers | Tiered fees from $499 a month; says no long-term contracts; no hard minimum spend, though its FAQ mentions starting at $2,000 to $3,000 | Cloth & Co: 140% revenue and 71.6% ROAS improvement in 90 days, no baseline; we could not find this case on its case-study listing | It is a large multi-service firm, not Shopify-only, despite the landing page wording |
| Digital Darts | Australia, 2015, team of 9 | A retainer plus pay-for-performance model; at least AU$2,000 a month in ads and $10,000 a month in sales; no lock-in contract | Percentage growth cases, some with a prior-year baseline (Milton & King); Galen Leather says orders had to pause for about two months | Says Shopify is all it does, but fees are not printed, and the performance metric is not defined |
| Hustle Marketers | Zirakpur, Punjab, India; serves clients worldwide | $600 to $800 per platform per month; month to month; you own your ad accounts | One case with stated dates and baseline: ROAS from 4.90 to 17.15 with 37% less spend, in a judaica store | Its page contradicts itself in places, and most cases do not say the platform is Shopify |
| Axis Web Art | New York, since 2011 by its own account | Fee not printed; ad spend goes direct to Google and Meta with no markup; recommends $1,500 to $3,000 a month in ads | No client figures; Shopify directory page confirms a listing but does not list paid search among services | PPC looks like an add-on to a build business |
| Logical Gecko | US address printed (Wyoming); where the team works is not stated | Month to month with 30 days written notice; you keep admin access to your Google Ads and Merchant Center; recommends $3,000 to $5,000 a month in ads; Shopify directory shows starting from $1,000 | Case studies with spend, revenue and dates, for example 20.26x ROAS on about EUR 15.9K of spend from January to July 2026 | Google only, platform-agnostic, no Shopify-specific page |
Within this group the clearest terms are Hustle Marketers’ per-platform fee and account ownership statement, Mavlers’ tiers and Logical Gecko’s ownership and notice wording. Digital Darts is the only one that screens clients out, asking for $10,000 a month in sales before it takes you on. Whatever the sticker, check how the fee share looks at your own spend in the table above.
$5,000 to $25,000 a month in ads
Six agencies with a Shopify and paid ads page that point to mid-size budgets
| Agency | Where (as stated) | Fee and terms it prints | Proof it shows | Check before signing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Endless Digital | Melbourne, Australia; Shopify partner since October 2019 per the directory | Fixed monthly fee set by spend and scope, no figures on its own site; directory lists $1,000 to $2,500 for Meta or Google ads management; no minimum contracts; weekly reports through Slack | Beserk.com.au at $20M revenue and 20x ROAS, MontanaHudson $1.22M revenue on $283K of spend; own claims | Its homepage counters render as placeholders, and its headline 4x to 5x average sits beside 20x showcases |
| First Pier | Portland, Maine | Fixed fee, not a percentage of spend, no amount printed; works with ad budgets from $4,000 to $60,000 or more a month | Hairstory 31% ROAS lift (the page does not make clear First Pier ran it); work listing tagged with paid media but no figures | Paid ads sit beside Shopify builds and migrations, and its paid proof is thin |
| Visionary Marketing | Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, with London and Middlesbrough offices | No contracts; fee not printed; weekly bid and budget reviews and daily Merchant Centre monitoring | LA Design Concepts: +1,386% revenue over 7 months, no baseline | UK shop, so ask about US feed and tax handling |
| Scandiweb | Headquarters not stated on the pages read | No fees printed; Google bills the ad budget separately; free account review with no commitment; monthly reporting | Black Friday year-on-year +828.6% PPC revenue, measured against the period before it took over | Google only on this page; Meta is scoped separately |
| Flatline Agency | Not stated; open roles point to Amsterdam | Fee set in a fixed proposal after an audit; you own the Google Ads account, conversion data and Merchant Center, and it works through a manager account you can revoke; no fixed minimum budget | Kuyichi ROAS of 30 across Google and Meta, no spend or period shown | It judges results after 90 days against an audit baseline, so agree that baseline in writing |
| 20North | Atlanta, Georgia | No fees printed; contact form offers $5,000, $10,000 and $25,000 a month budget bands | Paid cases on a separate page with percentages and no baselines; the Shopify PPC page itself shows no figures | Ask which cases were Shopify stores, because most do not say |
Two of these set up their terms around the account. Flatline Agency states that the Google Ads account, conversion data and Merchant Center stay yours and that it works through a manager account you can revoke, which matches the cleanest ownership set-up in Google’s documentation. First Pier and Scandiweb say little about ownership, so ask. For stores that are replatforming at the same time, the scope question is whether the build team and the ad team are the same people, which our Shopify development agencies by store layer guide helps you map.
Above $25,000 a month in ads
Three agencies whose printed fee bands suit larger programmes
| Agency | Where (as stated) | Fee and terms it prints | Proof it shows | Check before signing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brenton Way | Offices in California, New York and Illinois; no headquarters named | Most Shopify clients invest $5,000 to $25,000 a month in management fees plus ad spend; recommends at least $5,000 a month in ads; weekly reports through its dashboard | Claims 500+ Shopify stores and a 4.2x average ROAS; Shopify is named in only one of 37 case cards; no baselines | A full-service agency, with paid media one line of work |
| Slicedbread | Los Angeles, California | Quote on request; Shopify directory page confirms a Shopify Plus tier listing that includes search advertising and social media marketing | Names clients without figures on its own site; its per-channel pages would not load when we tried | Two different scarcity claims on its site, so ask for the basis of each |
| Zettler Digital | Not stated on the pages read | Engagements land in the mid four to low five figures a month; a rolling 6 or 12 month term with an exit at day 90; a hybrid fee is available to some clients | Bleacher Report $4M through email, SMS and advertising; most named cases are email-led | Paid media is sold with retention work, and its paid service page would not load when we tried |
Mavlers and First Pier also describe enterprise work, with Mavlers printing custom packages for $50,000 or more in monthly spend. If you run Shopify Plus, the extra checkout and wholesale questions fall under Shopify Plus agencies matched to your project, and the paid channel is one input among several.
Agencies we left out and why
We read the own sites of more than 30 agencies. Several did not make this list for reasons that matter to a buyer: the page named Shopify only as a logo or a navigation item, the paid ads page did not connect to Shopify stores, the pricing shown was for other services, or the page would not load when we tried and we did not work around it. A few agencies that top other lists showed strong Shopify work but no paid media proof on their own sites, so they are not here. We name none of them, because a name without the evidence would read as a verdict.
A Shopify PPC Tracking Audit You Can Run in One Hour
Do this before you hire, or in the first week with an agency. It needs access to Shopify admin, Google Ads, Merchant Center and Meta Ads Manager.
- List every pixel. In Shopify admin, open Settings, then Customer events. Note which app pixels and custom pixels run. Shopify says custom pixels are not supported by Shopify and that you own their compliance and troubleshooting.
- Find old script code. Shopify’s developer documentation says checkout.liquid and additional scripts on the Thank you and Order status pages were sunset on 28 August 2025. Script tags were sunset for Shopify Plus stores on the same date and for other stores on 26 August 2026. Tracking pasted into those places no longer runs, so conversion tracking depends on app pixels, custom pixels or checkout extensions.
- Check for double pixels. Shopify warns that pixel code pasted into the theme can create duplicates when an app also installs one. Duplicate purchase events inflate ROAS.
- Place a test order. Use a real low-price product or a discount code, then confirm the purchase appears once in Google Ads, once in Meta Events Manager and once in Shopify.
- Compare the three systems. Look at one week of orders. Shopify, Google Ads and Meta will not match, because they credit sales by different rules. Shopify’s help page says report metrics can lag by up to 24 hours and that ad spend from marketing apps can take up to 24 hours to sync. Google notes its own discrepancy factors: conversion dating, lag, counting settings and attribution windows. Record the gap so you can tell later whether it grows.
- Open Merchant Center diagnostics. Look for disapproved products, price or availability mismatches and missing GTINs. Google’s misrepresentation and price policies can lead to suspension, so these are not cosmetic.
- Check consent. Shopify says that in consent-required markets such as the EEA and the UK, web pixels run only after visitors grant permission. If you sell there, expect fewer tracked events.
Hustle Marketers makes a similar point and Visionary Marketing claims that standard tracking on Shopify misses 15% to 30% of conversions. That is its claim, not a Shopify statistic, but it shows why tracking is the first deliverable and not an extra.
Who Owns the Ad Accounts and What to Put in the Contract
This is the part most guides skip. Google’s own pages say a manager account is a separate account that can view and manage many accounts, and that linking an agency’s manager account to your existing account leaves the account, its history and its users unchanged. They also say a client account can have only one owner and that owner must be a manager account. If a manager creates the account for you, that manager becomes its owner automatically. If it links an existing account, it is not the owner by default, and you can unlink it at any time.
The practical rule is simple: create the Google Ads, Merchant Center and Meta accounts yourself, then grant the agency access. Meta’s partner access pages were behind a login when we tried them, so we describe only the Google rules here.
What the agencies print about accounts and contract length
| Agency | Account ownership | Contract and exit |
|---|---|---|
| Hustle Marketers | You own your ad accounts and it is linked as a manager | Month to month |
| Logical Gecko | You keep admin access; Merchant Center, Analytics and Tag Manager stay in your name | Month to month, 30 days written notice |
| Flatline Agency | Account, conversion data and Merchant Center stay yours; it uses a manager account you can revoke | Not stated; results judged after 90 days |
| Axis Web Art | Ad spend goes straight to Google and Meta with no markup; ownership not stated | Not stated |
| Mavlers | Nothing goes live without your sign-off; ownership not stated | No long-term contracts |
| Digital Darts | Not stated | No lock-in; you can leave any month |
| Endless Digital | Not stated | No minimum contracts or long-term commitments |
| Visionary Marketing | Not stated | No contracts |
| Zettler Digital | Not stated | A rolling 6 or 12 month term with an exit at day 90 |
Whatever the agency prints, put these clauses in writing:
- You own the Google Ads, Merchant Center, Meta ad account, pixels and Tag Manager container, and the agency has access only as a partner.
- Ad spend is billed to your card or account, not paid through the agency, and is never folded into the fee.
- The notice period is stated, and on exit the agency removes its access within a set number of days.
- A reporting calendar is attached, with the revenue source named (Shopify, not the ad platform).
- Any performance fee names its metric, its baseline and who measures it.
- Anything created for you, such as creative, feeds and audiences, stays with you.
Google, Meta and TikTok Partner Badges: What They Prove
Nearly every agency above shows a badge. The platforms say what the badge measures, and it is not your return.
What each badge measures, from the platform’s own pages
| Badge | What the platform says it requires | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Google Partner | On Google’s Partner requirements page: a rolling 90 day spend of $10,000 across managed client accounts, an optimization score of at least 70% on the registered account, and certifications for half of the account strategists | Return for any single store; Google says the badge cannot imply endorsement |
| Google Premier Partner | All Partner requirements plus a ranking in the top 3% of participating companies in the country, evaluated yearly and relative to others | That the agency performs well for stores like yours |
| TikTok Marketing Partner | Two tiers, Agency Partner and Premier Agency Partner, described in a September 2026 post; no numeric thresholds are printed | Results for a given advertiser |
| Meta Business Partner | Not stated, because Meta’s partner pages were behind a login | Not assessed |
| Shopify Partner Directory | A listing on Shopify’s directory; we confirmed listings for Slicedbread, Logical Gecko, Endless Digital and Axis Web Art | Paid ads skill; the Axis Web Art listing does not list paid search as a service |
Google’s Partner requirements help page measures spend volume across all clients and a score on one registered account, so a badge says the agency is active and certified. Our inference is that it says nothing direct about ROAS for a Shopify store. We did not check any of the 14 agencies’ Google, Meta or TikTok badges against the platform’s own directory, so treat those as claims.
Red Flags When Hiring Shopify PPC Management
- A promised ROAS before an audit. Hustle Marketers says it never promises a ROAS figure up front. Treat a number given before anyone has seen your margins and feed as a sales line.
- Ad spend paid through the agency. Google’s app listing says ad spend is billed to your Google Ads account. If the agency wants your budget on its card, ask why.
- The agency creates the accounts in its own name. Per Google’s pages, a manager that creates the account becomes its owner.
- Reports that show only platform ROAS. Without Shopify revenue and margin beside it, ROAS cannot tell you whether you made money.
- No brand and non-brand split. Brand search inflates blended returns, as the 16.44x against 3.09x example shows.
- No test order and no tracking audit. If tracking is not in the first week’s plan, every later number is suspect.
- Performance Max with no reporting. Ask for asset group and product-level views, and what happens when a group underperforms.
- Case studies without spend, dates or baseline. Only Logical Gecko among the 14 shows spend, revenue and dates side by side on several cases.
- A feed that nobody owns. Merchant Center suspensions follow from price and availability mismatches, and the agency should say who fixes them.
- A badge offered as proof of results. See the badge section above.
Shopify PPC Agency vs Freelancer vs In-House
Three ways to run Shopify ads (our comparison; salary and freelancer rates were not researched)
| Option | What it costs, as far as this guide can say | Best for | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agency | From $499 a month to five-figure monthly fees, per the printed prices above | Stores that need several channels, tracking fixes and reporting without hiring | Fee share is high at small spend; account ownership may be unclear |
| Freelancer | Not priced here: we did not read freelancer rate pages, and marketplace sites blocked automated reading in our research | One channel, a narrow brief, a store with clean tracking | One person’s capacity, and continuity if they leave |
| In-house | A salary plus tools; not priced here because no source was read | Stores with steady budgets and in-house creative | Hiring time and the limits of one person’s experience |
| Do it yourself | Ad spend only, using the Google and YouTube channel and Meta channel | Very small budgets while you learn | Setup mistakes, and your own time |
If paid search is only part of the plan, an organic play can sit alongside it. Our best Shopify SEO agencies compared by price guide covers that route. Paid and organic are different budgets with different time horizons.
When Shopify PPC Management Is Not Worth It Yet
The printed minimums point to a floor. Axis Web Art recommends $1,500 to $3,000 a month in ads to generate enough conversion data, and Logical Gecko recommends $3,000 to $5,000 for ecommerce. Brenton Way recommends at least $5,000. Digital Darts says anything under AU$2,000 a month gives slow results and asks for an established business with $10,000 a month in sales. Flatline Agency sets no fixed minimum.
The fee arithmetic says the same. At $2,000 of ad spend, a $499 fee is about 25% of spend, and at a 40% margin you need about 3.1x just to break even on the first order. At that point your own time on the Google and YouTube channel, with Shopping tab listings free for eligible US stores, is a better first step than a retainer.
- Fix the basics first. Shopify’s Google channel requires a visible refund policy and terms of service, contact information, a valid payment provider and a store that is not in private mode, and products need GTINs or brand and MPN.
- Know your margin per product. Without it you cannot set a break-even ROAS, and neither can the agency.
- Have conversion data. A store with almost no orders gives smart bidding little to learn from.
- Have a store page that converts. Ads send traffic. They do not repair a weak product page.
What the First 90 Days of Shopify PPC Management Should Look Like
Flatline Agency prints the clearest schedule: weekly changes to search terms, bids and assets in the first 90 days, big budget shifts only once there are enough conversions, and a judgement after 90 days against the baseline from its audit. Axis Web Art describes weekly reviews while campaigns learn. Google says conversion data can take up to 7 days to fully appear after changes or linking, and conversions can be reported up to 90 days after a click. The plan below is our suggestion, not an industry rule.
A suggested 90 day plan (our suggestion)
| When | What you should see | What you should refuse to accept |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Access granted, tracking audit done, a test order passing, baseline numbers recorded | Campaigns launched on unaudited tracking |
| Weeks 2 to 4 | Feed fixes, brand and non-brand split, first campaigns live with small budgets, weekly notes | Budget doubled before enough conversions exist |
| Month 2 | Search terms and product-level results reviewed, losers paused, creative tested | Reports that show only platform ROAS |
| Month 3 | A written comparison with the week one baseline: spend, revenue, margin, new customers | A verdict based on one good week |
Questions to Ask a Shopify PPC Agency Before You Sign
- Who will create and own the Google Ads, Merchant Center and Meta accounts?
- What does the fee cover: feed work, tracking, creative, landing page advice, reporting?
- How is the fee charged: flat, per platform, tiered by spend or a percentage? What happens to it when my spend doubles?
- Which revenue source do your reports use, and can I see a sample?
- How do you split brand and non-brand results?
- How do you choose between Standard Shopping and Performance Max for my catalogue?
- What is your first-week plan for tracking, and how do you test it?
- What notice do I give to leave, and how fast is your access removed?
- Which of your case studies were Shopify stores, with what spend, over what dates, against what baseline?
- Who works on my account day to day, and who answers if they leave?
Send them the brief before the call: your store address, last 90 days of Shopify revenue and orders, ad spend by channel if any, contribution margin by main product, your feed status from Merchant Center, and what you will not change, such as pricing or brand voice.
If you also sell on Amazon, the same questions apply to Amazon PPC agencies compared, although the platform mechanics are different.
Frequently Asked Questions About Shopify PPC Agencies
What is a Shopify PPC agency?
It is an agency that runs paid ads for Shopify stores, usually on Google Shopping, Performance Max, Search, Meta and sometimes TikTok. The 14 compared here print Shopify and paid ads proof on their own sites.
What does Shopify PPC management include?
Campaign structure, product feed and Merchant Center work, conversion tracking, creative, bids and budgets, and reporting tied to Shopify revenue. Ask a proposal to say which of these the fee covers.
How much does Shopify PPC management cost?
Printed prices on the agencies’ own sites run from $499 a month for up to $3,000 of spend (Mavlers) and $600 to $800 per platform (Hustle Marketers) up to $5,000 to $25,000 a month in fees (Brenton Way). Most agencies quote on request.
How much should I spend on Shopify PPC?
Printed recommendations from the agencies range from $1,500 a month (Axis Web Art) to $5,000 (Brenton Way). Digital Darts asks for at least AU$2,000 and $10,000 in monthly sales. Google’s help pages state no verified minimum that we could confirm.
What ROAS should a Shopify store expect?
It depends on your margin. The break-even before a fee is one divided by your contribution margin, so 2.5x at a 40% margin. Agency headline ROAS figures are their own claims and rarely show baselines.
Should I use Performance Max or Standard Shopping?
Neither wins everywhere. Hustle Marketers’ own data across 14 accounts had each ahead in four of nine. Ask how the agency tests both against your margins, and check that your Merchant Center feed is clean first.
How long until Shopify PPC shows results?
Flatline Agency judges results after 90 days against an audit baseline. Google says conversion data can take up to 7 days to fully appear after changes and conversions can be reported up to 90 days after a click.
Who should own my ad accounts?
You should. Google’s help pages say a manager that creates your account becomes its owner. Create the accounts yourself and grant access instead.
Can I run Google and Meta ads from Shopify myself?
Yes. Shopify’s Google and YouTube channel and its Facebook and Instagram channel let you sync products, connect accounts and create campaigns. An agency adds structure, testing and reporting.
Is a Google Partner or Premier Partner agency better?
Not on that basis alone. Google’s requirements measure spend across all clients, an optimization score and certifications. They do not measure return for your store.
